I don’t want to walk. I don’t want to run. I have been doing that for years in education. I want to fly! Let me fly – I say! Let me fly!
I have been blessed – I have legs to walk. I have been blessed – My legs have speed. But I want to fly. Don’t pen me in. Let me go! I want to fly!
God was the creator that allowed me to walk and to run. He also gave me a mind that can create and invent. Hundreds of years ago – who would have thought that we would be able to fly? But someone wanted to fly, and others supported their efforts. Some might have said, “These guys are fools.” “Can’t they be happy with their feet on the ground?” “Who needs to fly?” “We have all the answers right here.” “The experts know – it is impossible to fly.”
But they wanted to fly, and so they began to create. They studied and experimented, failed and tried again, observed and designed. They took their failures and what they learned and grew in knowledge, and soon they were able to fly!
I want to fly! I want children to know that they can fly. I want to get away from that education plan that says there is only one way to do things – only one way to teach reading, only one way to teach math… Let us fly! Let us use different ways and approaches. Let us create. Let us observe and design. Let us meet the needs and differences of children. Don’t limit us. Let us fly!
I want to fly! We want ALL children to fly. Don’t keep us on the ground. Let us fly! Think of all the things we can learn and see from a different perspective. We will see so much more than the ground. We will see from new heights, and we will learn. I want to fly! We will fly!
