Faith Based

  • Faith based refers to spiritual growth and development.
  • As we develop the whole child, we also nourish faith - faith in being a child of God, faith in unconditional love, and faith that there is "hope"...
  •  We are inclusive of all religions, backgrounds, and nationalities.
  • Faith touches the heart and accepts the child for who they are.
  • Faith helps the child to discover their own value no matter their situation.
  • Faith helps children to see others as unique and special.  We use our differences to build unity and strength.
  • Faith is a journey just like learning.  Faith provides a light - a light that says you are loved, with all of your faults, inadequacies, and failures - you are loved.
  • Faith focuses on strengths. Every child has been blessed with unique talents and abilities.
If we are truly to educate the WHOLE child, we cannot ignore this aspect of development.

Diversity

  • York Academy of Discovery works to provide a diverse environment.
  •   York helps children notice similarities and differences.
  • York brings a sense of unity along with a sense of belonging.

Developing the whole child

York educates the whole child - intellectually, emotionally, socially, physically, artistically, & spiritually.

Learning to care for others

  • York provides a positive disciplinary approach with a belief that relationships are key to a quality early learning experience.

The Family

  • York believes that in order to make the greatest impact on young children that families must be seen as partners in the early learning experience.
  • At least one home visit is conducted for each child registered with York.
  • Parents/Guardians attend at least two parent conferences per year.
  • Progress reports on child development are distributed four times per program year.
  • York values families, whatever the family make-up!

Classroom Size

York Academy of Discovery believes in a "family" experience.  Any education experiences will be limited in size - one to five ratio.  Our goal is to maintain a small group size in order to meet the needs of the whole child.

Hours of Operation

8:30 to 3:45
  • Children attend Monday through Thursday.
  • Each Friday children do not attend class.  Fridays are set aside for parent conferences, home visits, and prep for the next week.
  • York operates on an early August through May schedule with holidays similar to local schools.
  • See our calendar for details.

Program - Curriculum

  • York meets academic needs through a play based program.
  • York provides creative expression and values the arts.
  • Curriculum includes:  skill development for emerging pre-readers/readers, writing, fine motor activities, math (hands on), scientific inquiry, our world exploration, the arts, creative play, gross motor activities, learning to serve others, social emotional learning, field trips, and outdoor play.

"He took a little child and had him stand among them.  Taking him in his arms, he said to them, 'Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me..."
