Faith BasedFrom York perspective, faith based refers to spiritual growth and development. As we develop the whole child, we also nourish faith - faith in being a child of God, faith in unconditional love, and faith that there is "hope"... We use the term, faith based, so that we are inclusive of all religions, backgrounds, and nationalities. York believes that faith is very important especially in the lives of children who have experienced trauma or environments that bring about a sense of hopelessness. Faith touches the heart and accepts the child for who they are. Faith helps the child to discover their own value and the value of others no matter their situation. Faith provides an environment of love and acceptance. It also develops a sense of service - it explores with children how we can help others in need. Even when we are in need ourselves, there are ways that we can still provide for the needs of others - it might be as simple as listening and caring. Faith helps children to see others as unique and special. Even though others are different, they are still worthy of love. We use our differences to build unity and strength. Faith based means we are not afraid to discuss "religion" and we are allowed to explore the traditions of families and faith. We do not limit ourselves. Faith is a journey just like learning. Faith provides a light - a light that says you are loved, with all of your faults, inadequacies, and failures - you are loved.
If we are truly to educate the WHOLE child, we cannot ignore this aspect of development. Our desire is to provide families with an option - an option that can have a faith aspect with high quality educational experiences and arts development. Age of StudentsChildren must be 4 by Aug. 1. Children in the program will be 4 or 5 years of age. Children must also be potty trained.

Developing the whole childYork Academy of Discovery is dedicated to young children & to providing a quality early childhood experience. York:
Learning to care for othersYork Academy of Discovery provides children with direction, acceptance, and love. York provides a positive disciplinary approach with a belief that relationships are key to a quality early learning experience.
The FamilyYork believes that in order to make the greatest impact on young children that families must be seen as partners in the early learning experience. Therefore, at least one home visit is conducted for each child registered with York. Parents may also request additional conferences and/or home visits - Fridays are devoted to serving families. Parents/Guardians are required to attend at least two parent conferences per year. Progress reports on child development are given to parents four times per school year. York values families, whatever the family make-up!
