Bad weather, illness, aches and pains, weariness, frustration – how were the men and one woman on the Lewis and Clark expedition able to push on? Surely there were many times they wanted to give up. But they did not. They continued with their expedition of discovery. When all seemed impossible, they fought on. Great determination, great strength, and great trust in each other produced great victory and new knowledge to be shared with others. York, a slave, was a major contributor to the success of this journey. Never doubt the impact of one person.
There are people each and every day that set a course of exploration and discovery. Somehow they are able to reach their desired destinations taking paths not anticipated or expected. Journeys can be hard, filled with many setbacks and frustrations. At times journeys are filled with twists and turns, road blocks, and new directions.
York advocates on behalf of young children. That is our number one goal. With that goal in mind, York seeks to develop programs and experiences that benefit young children, especially low income children. Our desire is to establish rich educational experiences that meet the needs of the whole child.
Some of our past initiatives have included: development of an advocacy initiative to support families in maneuvering the education system, volunteering in diverse school settings with high poverty rates, Uri's Journey posted on Facebook & Instagram which told of the learning experiences of a little boy, & Journey of Love posted on Facebook during the early stages of the pandemic to provide parents with spiritual support and help with activities for their children.
Currently, we are providing an early childhood experience that operates four days per week. See additional information on this website. If you have questions about our program, please contact Becky at bkischnick2@gmail.com.
Also if you would like to be a part of helping young children, visit our donation page. York Academy is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Contributions to York Academy are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Please consider helping us make a difference in the lives of children.
