the wonder of beans

We were not the wealthiest of families.  So my mom knew how to stretch a meal as she had eight little mouths to feed.  Making meals that could last more than one day helped the money situation.  My mom was a master chef.

For example, on the first day my mom would make a large pot of homemade bean soup.  On the second day, she would use the leftover soup to make baked beans in the oven.  On the third day, we devoured baked bean sandwiches made from the leftover baked beans.

My favorite part of this experience was the music that we all made after three days of beans.  All of us kids would laugh until we cried at the strange sounds that we could create.  The smell – well that was another matter.  To this day, I still love bean soup!  It must be the memories!

True silly story,
BEcky
