"The Promise of something bigger than yourself" - A road sign

When you reach out - away from your comfort zone - in an effort to do something bigger than yourself, when you hope to make a difference, when you seek to touch the heart of another, when you seek to help those in need:  these things change you because you are doing something bigger than yourself.  This promise lifts you and brings purpose and meaning to your life.

York Academy is an effort to do something bigger than ourselves.  It is giving our love and God's love to children.  It is being dedicated to the growth of children - to help them to increase achievement and deal with the circumstances that surround them.  It is letting them know THEY have meaning and purpose.  It is helping them discover the promise of something bigger than themselves.

Each time we feel "down and out" - lost and alone - wronged and defeated - wrongly accused - not valued - beaten down by the very people who are to support and uplift us... - help comes by thinking of a promise bigger than ourselves.  First, it helps to turn to our Lord and Savior by reading His word and by going to Him in prayer.  Secondly, we try to look outside of ourselves and think of our purpose in this world.  I have to admit, I have struggled with knowing my purpose and God's plan for my life.

Each time I have struggled, God as well as education and touching the lives of children has led me to regain strength and purpose.  A few years back, even though our group was not successful in starting a charter school - this endeavor lifted me out of the "depths of despair."  I don't know why things happen, but I do know this - God can make good out of "bad" situations.  The work and the ability to be creative and to possibly make a difference in the lives of children - drove our work.

As I experienced another "battle"in my life, I went for something bigger than myself again.  I looked at the passion that God has put in my heart for children and for education.  Once again, we have people that believe in education and children as I do.  We have joined together to work on a promise bigger than ourselves.  We are dedicated to working with children, whatever form that may take.

We believe that the promise of something bigger than ourselves can make a difference to children and to the community.  May God bless our work and guide us in the direction we should go.  We believe in God's promise and His love.
