Yesterday, I talked about how we are trying to build a team based on trust. We value one another and respect what each member brings to our organization. We are careful in selecting members of our team. We will be adding more team members as we move forward with our dream.
Jesus selected twelve disciples, important members of His team. Some were people others would not have chosen to be a part of such an important mission. Very ordinary men walked and worked with Jesus. Jesus even selected one who would betray him. He also selected one who would deny him when things got tough. Peter went on to spread the teaching of Jesus, build His church, and would himself die for the cause. The team around Jesus was extremely important, and Jesus knew what each would bring to the table.
As we build our team, we look for certain qualities – some of which are:
A desire to put children first and to make a difference for children
Strength mixed with weakness
Brave yet fearful
Willing to reject status quo
Open to diverse opinions
One who questions
A person of action
I don’t know who will eventually be a part of our mission. As we think about possible members, we consider: Spanish speaking individual who believes in providing a quality education for English Language Learners, Grant writer who sees the importance of our mission and seeks resources to move the mission forward, Parent of a child who will attend our kindergarten and be a voice for other parents, Lawyer who knows child and parent rights, Banker who ensures the safety of the money donated to our program for children…
We will see who the LORD sends us. All members of our team serve voluntarily. No monetary compensation is given to members of our team. Team members become servants to children, families, and to our community. It takes special people to join our team.
