Sniff, sniff – ummmmm – okay… Any teacher who has been in the classroom for a while knows about Gas City! We’ve all been there – you walk into a cloud and you know what has just been released!
Humor! Love it in the classroom. Not sarcastic humor or humor that hurts – but humor that makes kids laugh with joy. It made my heart sing when we could laugh together. Something would happen in small group or we would learn about something silly that would make us laugh. Sometimes I had tears rolling down my cheeks during lessons. LOVE it!
It’s fun to just let loose and be silly! There were times I would just break out in a dance. The kids would look at me like – what kind of crazy lady is this? But soon some of THEM would suddenly break out in a dance. I would laugh and say something like, “Yeah – you got it!” I remember once a boy who was very quiet – more to himself than the others. I put on some dancing music, and he just let loose. I was so surprised – “Man, you can dance!” He was so proud and just smiling!
There were times I enjoyed being a comedian, making the kids laugh. I liked it when they made me laugh. Direct teaching is always more fun when you can include laughter. We need more laughter and joy and in our lives, especially in schools.
So enjoy Gas City where it’s fun to learn!
