A school that is built to suit – does not worry about programs and initiatives. A school that is built to suit puts students’ needs first. The programs are not the driving force – students are!
Last week, I was talking to a student who wanted to be in our kindergarten. I asked the little girl, “What would you like to learn in kindergarten?” She thought for a moment, and she said, “I would like to learn about unicorns!”
“What is it that you would like to know about unicorns?” I asked.
“EVERYTHING!” she exclaimed. “I know you love unicorns,” I said. “What else would you like to do in kindergarten?”
“Maybe we could dance like a unicorn,” I suggested.
“Yeah! – that would be good!”
After this conversation, I was wondering - if we built our kindergarten around the needs of students, what would you see if you came into our classroom?
If you have young children, we would like to hear what they would love to see in a kindergarten. If you are a parent, we would like to hear your views also? If you are a community member, what are your thoughts on how we could help children and families?
Our goal is provide a kindergarten that meets the needs of children. We are interested in your thoughts. Let us know! We look forward to hearing your ideas. The magic of unicorns – build to suit!
