How will York advocacy help children & families?

York Advocates work on behalf of children & families.  York advocates are dedicated to helping students succeed in school by supporting them, and their families, with ideas and methods to improve their classroom experience.  Becky Kischnick is an experienced educator who will help children having academic or behavior difficulties to set goals and make progress in the school setting.  A relationship will be established to help children succeed in the classroom and in life.

  • York will develop a relationship with children & families and will listen to their concerns and needs.
  • York will provide education information to families so they are aware of all choices available to them and can make informed school decisions.
  • York, along with children & families, will develop individualized plans that meet the needs of children and aid school success.
  • York will support children & families by helping to make their voices heard in the school setting.
  • Where appropriate York will speak on behalf of children & families in the school setting.
  • The goal for York advocacy is to build school success and work in the best interest of students and families.

*Schools and school districts can deny York access to students and information even though parents give permission.  Therefore, we ask that parents clear our work with the school their child attends.  If the school refuses our help, the following question should be asked:  Why is the school/district denying the help of an advocate?  If you feel our help is necessary, we will explore the answer to the question and work from that point.
